NCFCD Statement on the Retirement of Commissioner of Insurance Jim Long
The N.C. Federation of College Democrats wishes Commissioner of Insurance Jim Long the most fortuitous future as he leaves public life. Since first taking office in 1986, Commissioner Long has been a dynamic, heartwarming, tenacious, and productive public servant. The longevity of his career was unmatched on the Council of State, and his presence will be sorely missed.
In his time as Commissioner of Insurance, Jim Long became an emblem of the North Carolina Democratic Party, and was universally beloved by party activists and officials across this state. Without fail, he appeared at Democratic Party events from the lowliest barbecue to the annual Vance Aycock celebration in Asheville, adding to the vibrancy of every gathering with his affable manner, irrepressible wit, and distinctly down-home personality.
Additionally, the College Democrats of the state wish former Representative Wayne Goodwin and Mr. David Smith all the best as they vie to determine who supersedes Commissioner Long. Indubitably, that person has big shoes to fill.
